Engine of 1935 Duesenberg Model J Convertible Coupe, one of the lots in the RM Auctions Sports & Classics of Monterey, on August 14-15. According to RM Auctions, the disappearing-top Murphy Roadster was arguably the most attractive and desirable body style available on the extraordinarily exclusive Duesenberg Model J. This particular example carries engine SJ527, which was born supercharged and is offered as such today. Its fascinating provenance includes such names as William Randolph Hearst, locations such as Paris and Madrid, and even a transfer of ownership involving unsettled US Navy sailors’ bar tabs in Mallorca, Spain.
